Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation

By larissabrown at 2010-11-24 05:19:01
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common rhythm abnormality of the heart. Over the years, the incidence of atrial fibrillation is increased, in both the developed and developing world. If you have AF, electrical impulses do not arise normally in the SA node as described above. Instead, many impulses begin simultaneously and spread through the atria and compete for a chance to travel through the AV node. This results in a very rapid, disorganized and irregular heartbeat.

The most common treatments include:

1-Medications, which slow down the rapid heart rate associated with atrial fibrillation.

2-Electrical cardioversion - This is basically an electric shock that restores normal rhythm. It is typically used when medications don't improve symptoms.

3-Drugs can sometimes restore the heart's normal rhythm. These drugs are given under medical supervision, and are delivered through an IV tube into a vein, usually in the patient's arm.

The symptoms of atrial fibrillation in cats will not be real specific, and as a result, can be very difficult to detect. The first symptom will be an unwillingness of your cat to attempt any type of exercise. This should not be treated lightly and assumed that your cat has become lazy. Most all cats can be very slow and methodical at times, but in this case, it will develop into a situation where it will be all of the time. But they are not being lazy; their heart will not allow them to do much exercise.

Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation

Drugs (such as ibutilide) can sometimes restore the heart's normal rhythm. These drugs are given under medical supervision, and are delivered through an IV tube into a vein, usually in the patient's arm.

Electrical cardioversion may be used to restore normal heart rhythm with an electric shock, when medication doesn't improve symptoms.

If your heart is basically healthy or if the underlying cause of atrial fibrillation has been treated successfully and atrial fibrillation persists, your physician may consider a treatment sometimes called cardioversion. This consists of an electric shock administered to your heart while you are under mild anesthesia.

We all know that the heart is made of 100% pure muscle. For the heart to beat, it involves different muscles. These muscles tighten in order to pump blood that will be supplied to the different parts of the body.

Diagnoses of this and most arrhythmias are achieved by monitoring the heart rhythm. This can be done with 12 lead electrocardiograph (EKG), in-hospital telemetry, ambulatory 24 hour holter monitoring or 30 day event monitoring. This will provide the documentation needed to treat the atrial fibrillation.

Another option available is an afib ablation. Unlike the medication therapy, this option tries to cure the atrial fibrillation. The procedure takes place at the hospital and is relatively simple. The only pain you would feel is after the procedure (you are usually asleep during the ablation), where the instruments used in the procedure (catheters) were inserted into your body.

The actual cause is usually that the electrical signal which coordinates the heart is disrupted or not passing across the heart as it needs to in order to trigger the contraction of the muscles. Disruption is frequently caused by the electrical signal being drowned out by electrical impulses generated elsewhere by the atria or by the pulmonary system.

Yah! your right, what is the cause of snoring?. Actually i don't know. All i know is that we can prevent snore by using some of the products that are available. One of that is the snoring mouthpiece or if you want to find out if you are having sleep apnea symptoms or signs of sleep apnea, then use sleep apnea test kit.
