By larissabrown at 2010-10-27 06:53:12
Jock itch (tinea cruris) is a pretty common fungal infection of the groin and upper thighs. Jock itch is also sometimes called crack fungus, crotch itch, bag rot or crotch rot, dhobi itch (after Indian washermen). It is a common fungal infection that affects the skin of your inner thighs, buttocks and genitals. Men and women encounter the disease worldwide, although it is seen more often in the humid tropics.

Causes of jock itch

Unhygienic practices, such as not changing underwear daily and sharing of towels and other intimate apparel, are the primary causes of jock itch. You could also catch jock itch if you come in contact with persons who are suffering from the skin disease or you use and share towels, bed, blankets, shorts and pants with someone who has jock itch.

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted virus. The virus may remain dormant for some time, but an outbreak will usually occur within 30 days of sexual contact. The first herpes outbreak is usually the most severe but not necessarily. Stages of a herpes infection are as follows: itchiness, a rash, stinging, burning, swelling, blistering, sores, crusts and a return to healthy skin with no scarring.

The area of the groin is a perfect environment for the growth of jock itch. It's warm and moist. The summer months are especially tough since you sweat much easier in hot weather. Wearing very tight fitting clothing can also bring bring it on, as well as those who are obese or suffer from diabetes mellitus.

The symptoms of jock itch are:

1-Itching and redness in your groin area, genitals, buttocks, anal area and inner thighs.
2-Burning sensation in the reddened areas.
3-Peeling or flaking of the skin in these areas.

Jock itch can be treated by physicians after they take samples from your skin. A sample of your infected skin when placed under a microscope can easily reveal whether you have contracted this disease. A sample of your skin can be taken after the skin lesion biopsy test, which is also known as the Punch biopsy or the shave biopsy.

For women, getting the right diagnosis for jock itch is important, if only to separate it from other skin disorders like psoriasis or dermatitis. Targeting fungus effectively means using the right medication that can provide a cure. If misdiagnosed, other medications may be prescribed that will not work with fungal infections.

This fungus usually thrives in the dark and moist areas of the groin. Most men especially the athletes have this. But in some cases, almost anyone who sweats a lot could easily get it. The question is, Is there a remedy for jock itch? Yes, certainly. There are home remedy cure for jock itch, maybe you'll need to take some time and check up on your medicine cabinets.

Jock itch is also called as tinea cruris. A fungus multiplies and causes jock itch in the groin area. This fungus finds hot and humid places favorable to multiply and therefore rapidly develops in the groin area. You can get it from anybody via contact, shared towels or clothes. The fungus that causes jock itch is from the dermatophyte family.

Another remedy that has been around for many years is using corn starch. Simply applying corn starch to the area has proven to be effective in curing the itch long before these other products came out.

Some other diseases that may also cause itching in the groin area are psoriasis, eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis, candida infections and some other conditions. It is always advised to get a proper diagnosis made by a doctor before you use any anti-fungal over the counter (OTC) medicine. We will look at the causes in the next article.
